High Wycombe, or Wycombe, is a market town located in Buckinghamshire, England. Situated in the valley of the River Wye, surrounded by the Chiltern Hills, it is 29 miles (47 km) west-northwest of London’s Charing Cross. High Wycombe has a population of 127,856, making it the largest town in Buckinghamshire, according to the 2021 UK census. The High Wycombe Urban Area, of which the town is the main part, has a population of 140,684. The town has a historic market held on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday since medieval times. The town’s university, Buckinghamshire New University, still includes furniture design in its curriculum. The River Wye runs through the town, and the chair industry shaped the town center, with housing along the slopes. The town has diverse industries, including paper production, precision instruments, clothing, and plastics. Industrial activities are concentrated in the Cressex district, southwest of the town center. The town is conveniently located near the M40 motorway, with two junctions serving Wycombe. Junction 3 provides access to Loudwater and High Wycombe (east), while junction 4 at Handy Cross roundabout connects to central Wycombe, Marlow, and Maidenhead.
