About This Location

Wembley, a sizable suburb in the London Borough of Brent, is located 8 miles northwest of Charing Cross. Comprising neighbourhoods like Alperton, North Wembley, and Wembley Park, its 2011 population was 102,856. Originally part of Harrow on the Hill in Middlesex, Wembley evolved from an agricultural area to a vibrant London suburb by the 1920s. In 1937, it became a municipal borough and later merged with Willesden in 1965 to form the London Borough of Brent. Wembley Park, initially pleasure grounds, gained prominence hosting the 1924 British Empire Exhibition. The iconic Wembley Football Stadium, developed as a result, became a landmark. The 1923 stadium was replaced in 2007, featuring a modernized design and hosting major football events. Wembley’s transformation aligns with its historical significance, evolving from a separate parish to a key district within Greater London.
