High Peak is a district in Derbyshire, England, known for its beautiful moorland plateau in the Dark Peak area of the Peak District National Park. The district extends from Holme Moss in the north to Sterndale Moor in the south, and from Hague Bar in the west to Bamford in the east. It might have gotten its name from the ancient Forest of High Peak, a royal hunting reserve administered by William Peverel, who was favoured by William I and operated from Peak Castle. High Peak is a significant part of the Peak District National Park and includes the highest point in Derbyshire, Kinder Scout, which stands at 636 meters (2,087 feet) above sea level. Many people living in the district commute to work in neighbouring counties and other parts of Derbyshire because of its central location close to Cheshire, Greater Manchester, South Yorkshire, Staffordshire, and West Yorkshire.
