Quinton is a suburb of Birmingham, located 5 miles west of the city center in the West Midlands. Once part of Halesowen parish, it was incorporated into Birmingham in 1909 and became part of the West Midlands metropolitan county in 1974. Originally a village surrounded by farmland, Quinton developed into a suburban area in the 1930s, though countryside remains at Woodgate Valley Country Park. The name Quinton likely originates from Cweningtun, meaning “the queen’s settlement.” Historically, the area was linked to agriculture, nail making, and small coal mining. Bourne College, a former boarding school for boys built in 1882, later became Quinton Hall before being demolished in 1978. Quinton was minimally impacted by bombing during World War II, with limited factory development due to objections from nearby Edgbaston residents. The area now forms part of the B32 postal district, bordered by the Hagley Road West, <a href="M5 motorway, and Bourn Brook. Key landmarks include the recreation ground and Woodgate Valley Country Park. With a history stretching from medieval times to modern suburban development, Quinton retains elements of its rural past while being an integral part of Birmingham.
